Abstract
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MORPHOLOGY AND TAXONOMY OF LAND
PLANARIANS (PLATYHELMINTHES, TRICLADIDA, TERRICOLA). Characteristics of the external and internal morphology of land planarians are used in their identification at the species level. Analysis of the external morphology, in live worms, preferentially, as well as after fixation, includes characteristics such as colour pattern, body shape and eye position.
The internal morphology, which is studied by histological serial sections, is analysed in fragments of the anterior region, pre-pharyngeal region, pharynx and copulatory apparatus.
For those who wish to be introduced into the taxonomical analysis of land planarians, we present here a revision of the principal characteristics of taxonomical importance for their identification at the species level, with emphasis on Geoplaninae.

Resumo
Para identificação de planárias terrestres ao nível de espécie, são analisados caracteres da morfologia externa e interna. A análise da morfologia externa, em vida, preferencialmente, e após a fixação, inclui caracteres como o padrão de coloração, a forma do corpo e a disposição dos olhos. A morfologia interna, estudada em cortes histológicos seriados, é analisada em fragmentos da região anterior do corpo, da região pré-faríngea, da faringe e do aparelho copulador.
