CH1 Um Khalid was twelve kilometres far from Nabur. There was only a narrow path. The author was going to market with a tin of cheese and a large bag of vegetables. He was in love with Hanim, a daughter of the richest man in the village, Abdel Rahman El Soussi. The villagers had gone to the market in Nabur every Friday and had sold their vegetables and cheese cheaply. CH2 His name was Faisal. The things were changing quickly since the British had just left his country. But they were still poor. Therefore they needed a school, a hospital and a doctor. Every year the river have flooded and made the soil rich. Then they had to bring water to the fields. CH3 Abdel Rahman had had a letter from the government. They were meeting that night. Faisal´s father was dead and he was the man in his house. His friend Abbas said about the letter that the government wanted to build a road and a new boarding school north of Um Khalid.
