Gerúndio - inglês
- Usa-se o gerúndio: 1. Como substantivo: Singing is what he does best.
This house needs a good cleaning.
2. Após preposições: (about, against, at, in, of, for, on, after, before, etc.), o verbo vem sempre na forma - ing;
Before opening the letter, she took a deep breath.
She is interested in buying the a car. - Adjetivo + preposição + ...ing: I'm against voting for Richard. She is good/bad in persuading people. - Substantivo + preposição + ...ing: He has difficulty in talking to the public. There are good reasons for eating a lot of fruit. - Verbo + preposição + ...ing: Why do you insist on telling me the same old story? He apologized for being late. 3. Com a função de objeto direto e objeto indireto (com preposição) He likes swimming. Swimming is her favorite sport.
4. Após os verbos abaixo só se pode usar a forma no gerúndio: admit - appreciate - avoid - carry on - consider - contemplate - continue - delay - deny - detest - dislike - endure - enjoy - escape - excuse - face - fancy - feel like - finish - forgive - give up - imagine - include - involve - keep - mention - mind - miss - postpone - practice - put off - recommend - resent - resist - risk - suggest - understand - quit |
5. Após os verbos go e come: They went skiing last winter. They went skiing last winter. 6. Após essas expressões: can’t stand, can’t help, be worth, feel like, it is good, it is no use, there is no point, what about / how about, look forward to, be used to, object to. a) Can’t stand :I can’t stand boring people.
b) Object to: They objected to sitting in the smoking section
