Charles Frederick Worth was the major reference for fashion throughout Europe, as the couture house most sophisticated of all the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In this scenario, Worth was considered the father of Haute Couture because with the focus on making custom, hand made in exclusive designs. He was the first to create a complete collection for each season with luxury and refinement admired by many generations. Charles Frederick Worth was born on November 13, 1826 in Bourne, Lincolnshire and died in 1895. He started working since early. When he was 20 years old he decided to move to Paris in search of more wealth, which took a job at a fabric store of high quality call Gagelin's. Later he met his future wife named Marie Vernet who inspired him to draw some pieces of garment. The result was very positive making Gagelin offered him a space in your store. In 1848, Charles increasingly became a man of fashion. His manager sent some pieces of his clothes to the great exhibition at the Palacio de Cristal in London. Three years later, Worth and his wife accepted the partnership with the Swedish Otto Bobergh. They opened the house in Paris called Bobergh Worth. One of the first customers belonging to high society was Princess Meternick, The Austrian Ambassador’s wife. After that the influence of Worth extended to the entire court of Napoleon III. Worth’s clothes were greatly appreciated by the women. He defined in simple terms the silhouette of woman. His clothes were very elegant and comfortable at the same time. In 1871 Worth already contained about 1200 employees. In 1880 the fame and success of Worth grew a lot and he opened a studio to serve their clients. He was the first to use human mannequin for their customers so they could see the fit of the clothes. Another thing of Worth’s innovations was to sign their creations.
