Este artigo trata de algumas reflexões sobre o patrimônio cultural, destacando o desafio dos indivíduos em identificar e proteger o seu patrimônio. A proteção e valorização do patrimônio inscrevem-se em uma política de desenvolvimento local, o que leva a produzir a compreensão das limitações e potencialidades da própria realidade, podendo fazer dela um instrumento de transformação. Nesse sentido, gerar conhecimentos sobre a realidade local permite promover um desenvolvimento vinculado às necessidades da comunidade, uma prática que pode ser pensada por meio da educação.

Abstract
This article deals with some reflections on the cultural heritage, highlighting the challenge of individuals to identify and protect their heritage. The protection and enhancement of heritage are part of a policy on local development, which leads to produce an understanding of the limitations and potential of reality itself, which may make it an instrument of transformation through education. In that sense, generate knowledge about the reality on the ground allows promote a development bound to the needs of the community, a practice that can be thought through education.
