ABSTRACT
The present study focus on the feasibility of using Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) to aid technological control in the implementation of flexible pavement layers. The DCP is characterized as being a simple and low cost portable equipment which allows easily performed semi-destructive testing to assess compacted or in natural state soil strenght "in situ". The evaluation of soil resistance, as provided by the DCP, is very advantageous in road engineering, considering the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test, for example, there are gains in time, resources and practicality. A soil investigation through CBR and DCP tests, made on samples of recycled-base, subbase and subgrade layers of pavement in federal roads, enabled the development of regression models, correlating the bearing capacity obtained from both trials. The study proposes the development of a methodology for the selection of an appropriate curve for each soil type and pavement layer. The results consist on the possibility of complementing the quality control techniques of our road constructions with the use of the DCP device. In order to do so, it is only required the elaboration of a calibration curve database correlating the CBR results and the DCP penetrating rates for the
