ABSTRACT Control ofFallArmyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Srnith) with Baculovirus spodoptera through Irrigation Water This research was to test the efficiency of Baculovirus spodoptera to control the fali armyworm, Spodopterafrugiperda (J.E. Srnith), sprinkled through irrigation water. Baculovirus sprinkJing was made by means of a portable injector of chernical products connected to the irrigation system with sprinkJers ZAS-30. In the first experiment, the treatments were 3, 5 and 7mm of water, doses of 1.0 x 105; 6.0 x ICJ4; nd 4.0 x lCJ4 a polyhedralrnl, resulted from macerated larvae. One hundred larvae were sampled in each replicate during three days, and brought into the laboratory, fed in artificial diet and enclosed in plastic cups of 50 rnl. Results showed that mortality was independent of the water application depth. Mortality varied from 77.5 to 78.9%. In the second experiment, the water depth was constant in ali treatments (6 mm) and the doses from a wettable powderwere O. 72g (2.0 X 1011 pol/ha); 3.6g(l0.0 x 1011 pol/ha) and 7.20 (2.0 x 1012 pol/ha), Fifty plants from each block were sampled during the next three days after irrigation. Results showed that mortality was proportional to the doses used. Mortality in the two highest dosages (89.3 and 90. 7%) differed significantlyfrom the mortality ofthe lowest doses (62.6%). The presence ofparasitoids was high in both experiments, with peak values from 58 to 63%. KEY WORDS: Insecta, NPV, irrigation, entomopathogen, biological control.
