1. Research about possible places to work.
First of all, I had to understand how construction work is done in Australia. I found out that most of it is handed to sub contractors, my target at this point was finding a sub contractor which was looking for a labor.
2. Any contact you have with business about doing volunteer work.
After the swing stage accident where two people were killed in 2008 at the Meriton building in Broadbeach, My workmates and I helped to renovate one of the victim’s houses, so his wife could sell the propriety for a much better value.
3. Any personal preparation you do.
Once I got the job I new that in my first day I would have to make myself look as professional as possible, I went to buy myself some working clothes and asked my friend Dave for some tips such as how to act and what to say when meeting the boss, he was the responsible for arranging this trial and he had been working in this field for more than 30 years.
4. How you created or adjusted your resume to fit a particular job.
Actually! I never made a resume when looking for a job in construction sites, what I actually did was getting to know people who was already working in this field, I thought this strategy was the best one due to my lack of experience in construction work in Australia. In my opinion a trial was a much better chance than an interview because I knew that showing people what I was capable of was a lot easier than have made than believe me before seeing what I had to show.
5. How you decided on the area of work you wanted.
By that time I already had been leaving in Australia for two years and I had never worked in construction sites during that time. I believe construction work is something I always had a natural ability to do, when only a kid I was always playing with my father’s tools, doing some pretty impressive staff
