Class project
The companies that I have chosen to the case study were Petrobras and Natura, both Brazilian companies with presence in other coutries though and being models of sustainability on its respective industries.
PETROBRAS
Petrobras is the biggest company in Brazil, its market value is US$ 164,8 billions. It is the third biggest energy company in the world with presence in 28 countries, on 5 continents. It operates in the whole oil and gas chain production and also in the biofuels and alternative energy sources production. Despite its core business being directly a threat to the environment the company has been engaged in many initiatives not just to balance all damage that it cause but also to go further than the just “giving back to the planet” approach. It is the only company in Latin America so far that is committed to developing its business according to the Ten Principles of the United Nations´ Global Compact that asks companies to embrace a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption as follows: * Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; * Principle 2: Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights issues; * Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognitio of the right to collective bargaining; * Principle 4: The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; * Principle 5: The effective abolition of child labour; * Principle 6: The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation; * Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; * Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsability; * Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies; * Principle 10:
