ABSTRACT: This work was analyzed the economic and technical viability for production of sodium bicarbonate from the use of industrial residual CO2 from fermentation process. The feasibility study considered the economic market of the product (sodium bicarbonate) and the raw material (NaOH), prices, technical specifications, major producers, consumers, trade balance. The operational cost of the plant was R$ 40.00 / ton of production and R$ 860,00 / ton. The annual consumption of sodium bicarbonate was estimated at 110,000 tonnes, with growth of 9% per year. The market price of bicarbonate is a function of the technical specifications of the product, ranging from R$ 1.00 to R$ 10.00 per kg. The technical feasibility study considered the development of the process done in laboratory scale and "scale up" the process through pilot plant built in the central region of the plant of São Paulo State. In the development of the process considered are three common types of reactors. The variables were analyzed: pH, NaOH concentration, temperature, pressure and reaction. For a long return on investment of 12 months the size scale of production was 10,000 ton / year.
