Resumo: Embora seja uma das mais importantes ferramentas matemáticas, o cálculo diferencial e integral dificilmente é abordado sob uma perspectiva histórica nos cursos de graduação. Entretanto, esta visão histórica é fundamental para estabelecer uma ponte entre a teoria matemática e suas aplicações em ciências e engenharia. Neste artigo, uma breve introdução à história do cálculo diferencial e integral é apresentada, com o propósito de motivar estudantes de ciências e engenharia. São destacados os aspectos históricos mais importantes e os principais personagens responsáveis pelo seu desenvolvimento.

Abstract: Although it is one of the most important mathematical tools, the integral and differential calculus is hardly studied from a historical perspective in the graduation degree. However, this historical vision is fundamental for establishing a bridge between mathematical theory and its application in science and engineering. In this article we present a brief introduction to the history of the integral and differential calculus, with the purpose of motivating students of science and engineering. The most important historical aspects and the main characters responsible for its development are put in evidence.
